Khalil Shreath to be paid $12000

Khalil Shreath to be paid $12000

The Palestinian hacker, Khalil Shreath, who broke into Zuckerberg's Facebook Timeline to expose a security lapse will be awarded nearly $12000 but not from Facebook but from an online crowd sourced campaign.

The hacker initially used Facebook's Whitehat disclosure program, a service that rewards bug hunters for reporting vulnerabilities and to inform the companies about the issue. Facebook refused to pay him for finding the bug since he used it to post on Mark Zuckerberg's Wall, because Facebook had ignored his earlier warnings. The exploit allows users to post to other Facebook user's Facebook timeline while they are not in friend list.
Marc Maiffret, CTO of BeyondTrsut, has kicked off a crowd-sourced funding to come up with a reward for Khalil Shreath and the results have already been impressive.

Khalil Shreath found a vulnerability in Facebook.com and due to his mis-communication, was not rewarded for his work. Maiffret wrote on GoFundMe campaign page,"Let us all send a message to security researchers across the world and say that we appreciate the efforts they make for the good of everyone."

Maiffret said,"He is sitting in Palestine doing this research on a five year old laptop that looks like it is half broken." He also said,"It's something that might help him out in a big way."

List of the people who did Cyber Attacks:

1. Robert Tappan Morris and the Morris Worm (1988):-
Creator of the first computer worm transmitted through the Internet. Morris a student at Cornell University in the USA, claimed it his progeny was not aimed to harm but was made for the innocuous intent to determine the vastness of the Cyberspace.
Things went Pear-shaped when the worm encountered a critical error and morphed into a virus which replicated rapidly and began infecting other computer resulting in denial of service. The damage? 6000 computer were reportedly affected causing an estimated $10-$100 million dollars in repair bills. While this event could be pinned as being an unfortunate accident, it no doubt played a part in inspiring the calamitous distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) types of attacks we see today.
